Today is September 5th, 2017. On a whim, I visited the zoo with my wife for an impromptu date. Initially walking in, you're charged $9. The petting zoo is closed for renovations, which is okay, but the amount of the zoo that is closed for renovations was disappointing. The animals look sick and malnourished. The fauna in the enclosures for the animals have grown out of proportion. You can barely see the ground in the animals' enclosures. It was okay for a walk around on a semi-rainy day, but definitely not worth what was being charged for entrance.

Staff was friendly and helpful, gift shop and bathrooms were clean. Not very many animals, several exhibits were under construction simultaneously. Nice a lunchtime walk, but you'll struggle to spend a whole afternoon here until more of the work is done.

Needs a few more animals and some upgrades but staff are great, and animals they have are well cared for and healthy. Easy to walk and pretty grounds.

Though I appreciate the fact that the zoo houses animals found in NY state, the fact that at least 4 exhibits were under construction. Sure, it was off season, but those 4 missing exhibits are a fair portion of the exhibits available. Animals appeared well cared for and the enclosures looked large and clean.

There weren't a lot of animals, but we did enjoy the ones that we saw. The local zoo where we live in Rochester has a lot more animals, but the cages and exhibits have a lot less room for the animals. It usually is quite depressing when we go. The enclosures at this zoo were huge and we liked how they were set up. The animals were pretty close to us and even though it was a very hot day, there wasn't a lot of walking to get to each exhibit. We would definitely go here again, a beautiful zoo.
